The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory's MST-80B trainer was designed and built around the Intel 8080A 8-bit microprocessor.
1980 DATE CPU AMD 8002HP: The first two digits (80) stand for the year 1980. The next two digits (02) indicate it was produced during the 2nd week of that year (early January)
Backward Compatibility: The Intel 8085 processor is entirely backward-compatible with the 8080 instruction set. Because this reference card explicitly covers both the 8085 and 8080 instruction sets, all of the 8080 operation codes (opcodes) and mnemonics you need to write programs for the MST-80B are detailed right on this 1979 Reference Card.
How it Was Used: When students or engineers programmed the MST-80B using its built-in 24-key keyboard, they had to manually enter programs in machine language. This reference card was exactly what they used to look up the Assembly language instructions (like MOV, MVI, or JMP) and translate them into the Hexadecimal or Octal codes required by the trainer.
Because the 8085 is a hardware-streamlined (Voltage Change) 8080, Intel printed a single reference card for both. The only minor difference is that the 8085 has two extra, exclusive commands (RIM and SIM) used to manage its new serial data pins.
CHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
* 1974 Intel 1702A EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory). They feature a distinct quartz window over the silicon die, allowing them to be erased using ultraviolet (UV) light. The very pretty gold chip on the right is a white ceramic package labeled "INTEL 74", indicating a production date in 1974. The B1702A chip on the left is not as old, black molded plastic version, also featuring a window for UV erasure.
* 1977 Copyright (1980 production date) AMD AM9080APC microprocessor, an 8-bit chip. It is a clone of the popular Intel 8080 processor, featuring 40 pins.
