The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory MST-80 is a self-contained, briefcase-mounted microprocessor microcomputer trainer system developed in the mid-1970s to teach the fundamentals of the Intel 8080A 8-bit microprocessor.

CPU Date 1977 NEC. The markings read E73066.The 73 indicates it was manufactured in 1977. The 06 indicates it was manufactured during the 6th week of that year (early February). Based on the 8080 CPU, this trainer was intended to bring engineers and scientists up to speed on the new developments in integrated circuit technology for computing. Housed in a briefcase, this unit features a keyboard, power supply, LED display, manual and breadboard work area.

The computer powers-on and displays "62F", as shown in the photo. No additional testing was performed. Closeup photos show the vintage nature of the Integrated Circuits.

CHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
* 1977 NEC 8080AF, a vintage 8-bit microprocessor. It is housed in a 40-pin ceramic DIP (Dual Inline Package). The chip features a distinctive white ceramic body and a silver metal lid. It typically operated at a frequency of 2 MHz.
* 1974 Intel C1702A EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) pretty white (Intel) gold purple (1977 AMD) chips, which were prominent in early microcomputers during the 1970s.They feature a 2048-bit (256 x 8) storage capacity. The quartz windows allow the chip to be erased by exposure to ultraviolet light. These specific chips are highly collectible and date back to approximately 1974–1977.

Personal note: Advises isolating power sources ("Use separate power supply") for a 7486 XOR gate IC and a 2N3904 transistor to prevent voltage rail noise. Separating these supplies protects the 7486 XOR IC from damage caused by noise, particularly when switching circuits are involved. While the 7486 has built-in noise resistance, high-frequency switching from other components can still necessitate separate rails or filtering.

No extra parts.
Turns ON with LED lights working, no other testing was done. (SOLD AS-IS)

(Interestingly or not interesting, when turned on it just showed 2F, within a few seconds it switched to the 62F; just enough time to take another photo.) It has been sitting for years, maybe a capacitor just needed to max up? I guess I should of tried it a second time, but did not.

(BTW I turned this on the way it was; just disregarded anything about the note; and I have no idea what someone setup on the sub-board.) Only had it plugged in long enough for the two photos or so. There was a light noise/hum of some sort.
