OBO *** Step back to 1988 when aviator nostalgia soared high! This framed artwork immortalizes the Pocatello Chief warplane, complemented by a chic aluminum frame. Who needs Wi-Fi when you have wings and a timeless salute to history?

• Theme: Military Aviation
• Item Type: Framed Art Print
• Aluminum Frame, Paper Plane Image spot glued on the back to this black paper.
• Size: 8x10 inches
• Features: Signed "Ramie - 88" on the back which I assume is 1988. Not sure if the name is correct, hard to read. (I'm wondering if the R on the print is also Ramie and 88?) It is fuzzy. I don't think this is an actual print. Like the below, maybe was mailed to servicemen to try to spark memories and gather real photos of the plane in 1991.)
• Originally Owned by R.A. McLaughlin, I'm guessing this is Father of Tony McLaughlin Insurance Agent of Pocatello.

Scratches on the frame’s edges. Discoloration spots on backing board.

"Pocatello Chief", a World War II Consolidated B-24J/H Liberator heavy bomber (serial number 42-99976) assigned to the 576th Bomb Squadron, 392nd Bomb Group, of the U.S. 8th Air Force, based at RAF Wendling in England.
• The Aircraft: The bomber was named "Pocatello Chief" (in honor of Pocatello, Idaho).
• The Fate: On March 15, 1944, the aircraft and its 10-man crew (led by pilot Bert D. Miller) were shot down over Brunswick, Germany, after completing a bombing mission. All crew members were killed in action.

"POCATELLO CHIEF"

shot down over Brunswick, Germany 15 March 1944

Speculation: I don't know much about this, as far as I can tell its just on paper. I found the same image on a military newsletter but without the color; the newsletter says its an artist's rendering of the 576th's Pocatello Chief.

The veteran network had active records of the aircraft but lacked any high-quality wartime photographs showing its exact nose-art colors and details. They hired an aviation profile artist to recreate a historically accurate color visual of the plane based on surviving official military blueprints and tail-marking records. The copies were printed and mailed out to surviving squadron members to spark memories and request physical photos or diaries from veterans who remembered the plane.

I don't really know, maybe they have this image out at the airport?
