16" King (Rare Soldier Version) Steinbach Nutcracker Karl De Grasse Grosse Karl Der Große Charlemagne S714 44 Wooden Handcrafted Western Germany in Original Box
Karl der Große is the German name for Charlemagne. He was the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, with his capital in Aachen (current Germany) in the 8th/9th century. Carolus magnus rex, AKA Charles the Great.

Complete Box very good for age. Nutcracker is in great preserved condition.
Nutcrackers were made to bring Good Luck and many were brought back by soldiers from the war.( WWll ) Steinbach company has a great story behind it , and this particular Steinbach Nutcracker was made in the Western Zone of Germany , as written on the box sticker . I do not know the exact year it was made but 1972 or earlier . The bottom is stamped Germany with the number 44 and the box says S 714 Volkskunst Aus Hohenhameln Holzgalanterie Made in Germany . ( US or Russian zone ) perhaps. Very colorful and large size 16 " inches to hole in top of hat crown. May be a King or a Soldier. Name is unknown . Real rabbit fur was used back then.
