NEEDS A FULL REBUILD. COST TO FIX IS PROBABLY 10-15 for a new switch and 10-15 for a new capacitor. You CANNOT BYPASS the capacitor; this motor has to have a working capacitor. I believe the capacitor went out on this and that is what fried the switch. I believe the motor is good as it will spin IF you give it a little push, which is what the capacitor normally does. New capacitors are way better than old ones, they do not dry out.
A blast-from-the-past ticket to electrical history!
For sale: a vintage wire fan, motor capacitor is bad, with wires so ancient they might predate sliced bread.
YOU WILL NEED A REPLACEMENT MOTOR CAPACITOR for this Cornell-Dubilier CRA 25175-1A (IF your local and want me to solder in the parts after you get them, I would do that), or just use wire nuts and electrical tape. I would highly suggest getting a new three prong cord as well. There are videos on the net that show how to repair and upgrade.
• Capacitor Size: 1.7 MFD 250 VAC (It is suggested this unit can handle and be replaced by the more common 2 MFD.)
The Hunter / Robbins & Myers Type CG-16 (Catalog No. 262) fan was manufactured between 1949 and the early 1950s
• Acquisition Context: Robbins & Myers purchased Hunter Fan & Ventilating Company in 1949 and operated it as a division, which is why badge plates from this era typically read "Hunter Fan and Ventilating Company, Division of Robbins & Myers Inc., Memphis, Tenn.".
• Pre-1949 Distinction: Similar C-16 or C-12 models produced before 1949 were branded out of Fulton, New York or Memphis without the Robbins & Myers division marking, while post-1949 production carried the Robbins & Myers association.
• Design: It features a 16-inch blade span, 3-speed oscillating setup, and standard "pizza-slice" metal blades (unlike the earlier overlapping blade designs from the 1930s).
• Theme: Industrial vintage
• Item Type: Desktop Fan
• Brand: Robbins & Myers 262 CG-16 (Hunter Division)
• Material: Metal, copper
• Weight: 13.2 lbs.
• Features: Vintage historical vibes
• Country of Manufacture: USA
Measured wires are frayed, and the plug shows exposed copper at edges. Capacitor casing has slight oxidation and scratching. Overall aging is visible.
NOT WORKING. CAPACITOR NEEDS REPLACED, SWITCH NEEDS REPLACED. I THINK THE MOTOR IS GOOD, as it will run if you give it a little push. Troubleshooting says its the capacitor not the motor. Severely frayed wires, exposed copper at plug, oxidation on capacitor. Wires significantly aged.
**Black tape wiring is how it is now, other wire photos, is for record of how it should be restored with connections and color reference; with proper new parts (you supply).
