This 1923 violin has seen more symphonies and string battles than a retired orchestra conductor. Worn to delicate perfection, it comes with a coffin-style case that was probably at Bach's last gig. An heirloom for anyone who enjoys nostalgia...and maybe some light refurbishing. 

1921-1923 Japan (Label hard to read but believe is says "TRADE MARK , MADE IN JAPAN" If it says NIPPON, which I doubt it makes it a little earlier like 1914 Nippon,

Antique 1921-1923 Japanese Violin – Suzuki/Nippon Gakki Pinwheel Model – G.S. Bond USA Case

"TRADE MARK, MADE IN JAPAN"—dating it directly to the historic transition era when U.S. customs laws mandated a switch away from the earlier "Nippon" stamps.

Instrument & Case Details:
The Wood: Built with a traditional solid spruce top and a maple wood back/sides, measuring a standard 23 inches from scroll to base.

Condition Notes: The violin shows honest finish wear appropriate for its 100+ year age. Notably, a past owner has sanded down the spruce top plate, making this an ideal canvas for an amateur luthier or hobbyist looking to practice traditional varnish application.

The Case: Includes an original, highly collectible American-made George S. Bond (GSB Co. Charlestown, NH) wooden "coffin" style case. The case shows heavy vintage wear; the original black exterior paper coating has worn away, the latches have been replaced over time, but it retains its original wire carry handle and structurally sound wooden shell. Total weight of the violin and case is 4.1 lbs.

This is a wonderful, highly transparent project kit or historical display piece representing the birth of Japan's legendary 20th-century instrument manufacturing boom. Sold strictly as-is for restoration or parts.
